Historic Preservation

City of Wyandotte
In 2002 the Wyandotte Planning Commission and the Historical Commission with the assistance of Vilican Leman undertook the development of design review provisions to be incorporated into the zoning ordinance. An overlay district covering the central part of the city was established in which design review is required. This review covers all aspects of exterior building design including signage for both new and remodeling construction.

A five-member committee reviews each project and makes recommendations to the Planning Commission. Design review is based on adopted design guidelines which reflect the historic character of the area. This program is proving to be very successful and is achieving preservation as well as establishing and maintaining the historic character of the area when new infrastructure is undertaken.
